As for the beer, a rich and reddish-brown body with a healthy and frothy beige head. Very sparkling and complete head retention.
A pleasing aroma of fruity malts and sour cherries mixed with hoppy accents. A rich and complex taste of creamy caramel, ripe forest fruit and to the end a light tart finish.
Tasting Oerbier let me think of a cross between a Rodenbach (a Flanders Sour Ale) and a Liefmans Kriek.
Overall, a very smooth and very nice beer with some interesting and unique features to it.
Oerbier is a top fermentation strong dubbel and has been re-fermented in the bottle.
Oerbier is brewed from 6 different malts, candi sugar, Poperinge Golding hops and a special layer of yeast, which makes it a little tart, especially with aging.
After a couple of years, Oerbier tastes like it has been blended with wine...
