Tasting Favourites : Lambic Blends Collection 2.0

1Some of you might have followed our ‘Tasting Favourites‘ .

One of the most memorable we sold on Belgiuminabox , was last Winter’s ‘Lambic Blends Collection
We decided to make a follow up on that one, and kept some of the best lambics of the past season for this.

We did go a bit further though.

Next to the famous Geuze, Fruitlambic and Unblended lambic, we included:
a lambic made with spices (Basil), Dry Hopped geuze ( Saint Gilloise), A walnut-lambic (By Oud Beersel) , a crazy vintage Oude Gueuze from another millennium, and last but not least, a sour beer that doesn’t contain lambic – Cuvée soeur’ise- which is one of the best sour cherry beers around, according to Kurt himself.

We are very proud to announce this full line-up of beauties, that will be included in the ‘Lambic Blends Collection 2.0

Tasting Favourites : Cantillon’s Hopped Sours

1Tasting Favourites :

Cantillon’s hopped sours.

Cantillon hardly needs introduction. Brewing unsweetened lambic since 1900, they always kept true to their believes. They never gave in to the latest hype, or never messed around with additives. Still brewing the hard way. This passion-fueled brewery in Brussels makes lambics that are so spoken about, it is hard to find anyone who appreciates the style but doesn’t like Jean Van Roy’s attempts to make every single batch of beer a pure jewel.

Cantillon Iris

Iris is an exception for the breweries’ style. Strictly spoken not a lambic / gueuze beer, due to not using any wheat. Also, they made this beer with 50 % aged, and 50 % fresh hops, whilst traditional lambic contains 100 % aged hops. The result is this fresh, slightly amber beer, with a refined, complex taste. The spontaneous friends of Jean & co took over as soon as the actual brewing was done, making sure this beer is funky and sour. Barrel aging did the rest and Iris was born. Named after the symbol of Brussels, for those who asked themselves.

Cantillon Saint-Gilloise

Ever had a real lambic that was dryhopped, other than this one?

Truly unique in it’s category is this Cuvée Saint Gilloise. Also known as Cuvée Des Champions. This beer was named for the soccerteam Jean cheers for. It’s 2 year old lambic (carbonated, so very alike a gueuze) That was dry-hopped with Hallertau.

Cantillon Gueuze 2013 “Belgium Flag” edition

Cantillon Gueuze 2013 Belgian Flag

Brewery Note by Master-Brewer Jean Van Roy :

Yellow for the background, black for the silhouette and red for the letters, those were the colors of the original logo of the Cantillon brewery.

These colors were not chosen haphazardly. The designer who created the logo in the beginning of the 20th century simply used the colors of the Belgian flag.

Gueuze 100% Lambic BioJanuary 2014

2013 has been a marvelous year for the Belgian artists and sportsmen. Our national colors have been put in the spotlight on many occasions.

Brasserie Cantillon wanted to share this enthusiasm in its own way, by creating a modern version of its Gueuze label. Our current designer has made a new label by putting together the logo and the Belgian flag. This label will only be used for a short time until the stock is exhausted.

Belgiuminabox has added the Cantillon Gueuze Belgian Flag to the shop, available in 37.5 cl & 75 cl bottles :

Cantillon Lou Pepe Gueuze 2010

Brasserie Cantillon released the Cantillon Lou Pepe Gueuze bottled in 2010

Master-Brewer Jean Van Roy :

The Lou Pepe Gueuze is made with 2 year-old-lambic beer with a mellow taste, often coming from barrels in whichonly wine has been kept before.

The Cantillon lambics which are used to make the Lou Pepe are brewed in the same season.

Belgiuminabox is glad to add the Cantillon Lou Pepe Gueuze to the shop :

The Merlot and Cabarnet-Franc grapes are soaked in Bordeaux barrels containing two/three year old Cantillon lambic.

The beer is not blended before the bottling.

The foam is caused by the addition of a liquor which starts the fermentation.

The Saint-Lamvinus Cantillon 2013 is a rare product only available in 75cl bottles and now for sale @

Cantillon Cuvée Vigneronne 2013 in store @ Belgiuminabox

Brasserie Cantillon Cuvée Vigneronne 2013, a druiven-lambic (grape-lambic) is made from blending 2-year-old 2011 Cantillon lambic with Italian Muscat grapes.

The Vigneronne was bottled in October 2013.

The Cantillon Vigneronne 2013 is now for sale @ Belgiuminabox :

Cantillon Cuvée Saint Gilloise 2014 Bottling

Brasserie Cantillon released it’s “2014 Cuvée Saint-Gilloise”.

Cantillon Cuvée Saint-Gilloise is not a traditional ‘gueuze,’ in that it is made from un-blended two year-old lambic (spontaneously fermented), not from a blend of older and younger lambics.

It is dry-hopped in the cask for 3 weeks with Bavarian Hallertau hops.

Re-fermentation in the bottle is achieved with the addition of a small amount of candi sugar.

The Cantillon Saint-Gilloise 2014 is available @ Belgiuminabox :

Cantillon Grand-Cru Bruocsella 2010 Bio Lambic – 2014 Bottling

Here’s an explanation of Cantillon’s master-brewer Jean Van Roy about the red grapes added to the Cantillon lambic :

“The grapes, of the merlot and cabernet-franc varieties, are soaked in Bordeaux barrels containing two to three years old lambic. The beer is not blended before the bottling. The foam is caused by the addition of a liquor which starts the fermentation”.
