Mort Subite Oude Kriek 2005

unnamedOn a recent visit to a beer-pub in the Antwerp city of Herentals , in the basement of the pub I stumbled upon a stock of Mort Subite Oude Kriek/Kriek à l’Ancienne.

Much to my surprise the Mort Subite Oude Kriek had no bottling date indication, the only number I found on the neck of the bottle was a plain production number..

The only piece of information the pub-owner and myself did find was the ‘official expiration date’ on the back label of the bottle – July 2011. With comparing 2006 and 2008 bottling years of Mort Subite Oud Kriek to their expiration dates, I then knew the bottling date of this brew, being 2005.

I tasted the Mort Subite Oude Kriek 2005 (as I call it) as soon I got back at the warehouse and it was as sour-crisp as one can imagine, a perfect thirstquenching fruit-lambic on a hot summers day.

Brouwerij Mort Subite of Kobbegem-Asse used 25% Belgian cherries per 100 l of lambic to make this Oude Kriek.

All those years, the pub-owner (and first owner) of this fantastic fruit-lambic kept this brew in perfect condition in his cellar.

I am really glad to have found this vintage brew and to add them to the selection of lambics at Belgiuminabox.

Mort Subite Oude Kriek is in my opinion a much under-rated brew from Pajottenland for which brew-master Bruno Reynders can be very proud of !!

Mort Subite Oude Kriek 2005 is available on the shop.
